Building for Dreams – The Nunavutt Media Arts Centre Needs Your Help
Together, the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation and our construction investment partners: Qikiqtaaluk Corporation, NCC Properties Ltd., Atuqtuarvik Ltd. and The First Nations Bank of Canada are making our dream of the Nunavut Media Arts Centre a reality. The Government of Canada, the Government of Nunavut, Inuit organizations and many other public, private and individual contributors have been assisting through financial and in-kind contributions.
The Nunavut Media Arts Centre is located in the core of the business and government district of Iqaluit, Nunavut, minutes away from the Legislative Assembly. The 8000 sq. ft. building has an estimated cost of $8.5 Million (including equipment and associated training). The new centre will incorporate:
The first full-scale, state of the art, digital facility for audio/video, recording, performance and post production in Nunavut, available to local and territorial freelancers, performers, artists and production companies working in Nunavut.
Studio production suitable for live programming, including performance space and capacity for live studio audiences.
Office and post-production space.
The Nunavut Media Arts Centre will also house the Inuit Film and Video Archive (IFVA) for preserving and storing the priceless collection of historic film and video created by Inuit since the 1970s.
While construction will be completed in early 2015, new media equipment and associated training and the IFVA are now the top priorities for fundraising.
As a foundational element of our cultural infrastructure, the Nunavut Media Arts Centre will assure wider and better coverage and promotion of Nunavut artists and performers in every field, bringing the very best of Nunavut to Canada and the world. With cutting-edge production capacity and a unique, made-in-Nunavut design, IBC and our partners are creating a landmark for Iqaluit, a showpiece for Nunavut, a milestone in our cultural history, and a proud symbol of Aboriginal broadcasting in Canada.
